Financial Service & Sales - De
New York Life Insurance Company
Location(s): IL
Job ID: 1290808
Job Description:
Calling All Former Military Personnel...New York Life Wants You!
Discipline, organization, loyalty, leadership skills - these traits often come to mind when thinking of those who serve in our Armed Forces. Interestingly enough, they are equally as important to becoming a successful member of New York Life Insurance Company's sales or management team.
Recognizing this, New York Life recently joined recruitmilitary.com, a job placement service for persons with a military background who are seeking employment.
"I have hired several people who have a military background - the Army, Air Force, Marines," says Marc Ham, Managing Partner, Northern California G.O., who has been with the Company for 21 years, "When you look at these individuals, there's a discipline there. They are coachable and respectful of their supervisors. The characteristics that the military has instilled in them make them excellent candidates for our work here at New York Life."
Ham goes on to say, "One of my agents came in with over twenty years in the Army and he recently transitioned into a Development Manager position - he has been a godsend for us."
"Our 2006 Rookie of the Year also came to us after twenty years in the Army," says Ham. "Several of our experienced agents who were formerly in the military presented him with his trophy at our recent Awards and Honor Banquet, and proclaimed' Here's how we build quality among the troops!"
Agent Sam Handlee, Jacksonville G.O., who has been an agent since 2001, says "I was in the Marines in 1971, although I was not in Vietnam. The first characteristic from the Marines that helped me as an agent was discipline. In this business if you don't have self-discipline you are not going to make it as an agent. What we learned in the Marines - the core values of honor, courage and commitment - are things you take with you for the rest of your life, not just for active duty. Once a Marine always a Marine."
Says Ham, "Many of these agents find their marketing niche within the military and with their network of former colleagues."
"Employing former military personnel is also a salute to the men and women who are trying to keep freedom and peace here in States for us. It's the right thing to do."
