Training and Development
84 Lumber recognizes the value of ongoing training and development within our team! We offer on-the-job training supplemented by special training events:
- Management Trainee Program - Throughout the year, new Manager Trainees visit Team Headquarters for an intensive 4-day training experience. New programs are constantly being developed to give associates in-depth training on
specific subjects. After completion of the first week of training, Manager Trainees will then begin an nine-part home study program. Completion of the program leads to your first raise and promotion eligibility.
- 84 University - 84U is held each year in April to introduce new programs and ideas for the current year. Spouses are encouraged to attend.
- Half-Time Meetings - Product knowledge training during the summer months each year. These meetings offer a unique opportunity to train associates in small, informal group settings
- Spring Visits - The Spring Visit is an opportunity for each associate and store team to demonstrate their training and accomplishments to their Area Manager and other top management personnel.
- Evaluations - Every 84 associate is given the opportunity to advance within the company. One method of recognizing an individual's management skills is through written evaluations that take place during the year.
- Vendor Training, Publications, Videotapes - Our Associates are continuously learning while working in our stores. Our vendors often aid in providing product knowledge. There are also publications and videos you can review,
including product knowledge manuals, how-to brochures/videos, and the Policy & Procedure Manual.
